Despite a hectic last several weeks, the Philadelphia Eagles continue to make personnel adjustments as they prepare for another Super Bowl push. While most people are focused on the NFL draft at the end of this month, there is still strong aid available on the free-agent market as well.

While his peers are looking at prospects, Howie Roseman has decided to sign a veteran instead.

Eagles News: CB Avonte Maddox is Back for Another Season

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Eagles have re-signed cornerback Avonte Maddox. Philadelphia dropped him after an injury-plagued 2023 season, but the two teams are currently reconciling for another season.

Maddox’s health issues most certainly contributed to his lukewarm reception in free agency. While Maddox is unquestionably a player on the field, he has been sidelined frequently in recent years, appearing in only 13 of 34 regular-season games over the last two seasons.

That clear instability, especially in an important position, is something a competitor has every right to avoid. Given that Philly has signed Maddox for another year, the team is confident that his injury issues will be resolved.

If the former fourth-round pick can stay healthy, he will give much-needed stability at slot cornerback. After Maddox suffered a ruptured pectoral muscle in 2023, the Eagles were forced to rotate players at that position, including James Bradberry and Bradley Roby.

With 31 passes defended, four interceptions, and eight forced fumbles in his career, Maddox is a legitimate weapon for this defence. A bounce-back season in 2024 would be critical to the Eagles’ title prospects.

The Eagles presently have the NFL’s ninth-best odds to win the Super Bowl next season (+1600). Go to FanDuel Sportsbook, join up, and get $200 in free bets following your first successful wager.
