Nottingham Forest have discovered when they will have their appeal heard by after confirming they will contest the decision from an independent comission that cost them four points

Nottingham Forest have been told it is highly unlikely their Premier League points deduction will increase after confirming their intention to appeal.

The club announced that they will appeal their four-point deduction on Monday evening after they were found to have breached the Premier League ‘s profitability and sustainability rules last week. A short statement from the club was issued and declared their intentions in light of relentless speculation.

It read: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that it has today lodged an appeal against the four-point sanction imposed by the Commission in relation to the Club’s breach of the Premier League’s Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR). The club will not be making any further statement at this time.

However, Sky Sports report that Forest have already been informed that it is highly unlikely they will see a harsher point penalty implemented than the one they already face. Forest can expect their case to be heard within the next three weeks, before the April 12 deadline.

The Premier League have released a statement of their own acknowledging Forest’s stance. The update read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club has appealed the decision of an independent Commission to impose a four-point deduction on the club, after its admission of a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.

“The club lodged the appeal to the Chair of the Judicial Panel today, who will now appoint an Appeal Board to hear the case.”

If Forest are successful in their appeal, some or all of the points that they were deducted will be restored with immediate effect. There is no guarantee that all four points will be restored, as shown with Everton’s case this season.

The Toffees were initially slapped with a 10-point deduction as a result of breaching the same rules, only to have that sanction reduced to six after appealing the decision. Those at the top of the Forest hierarchy are desperate to have some clarity around the situation as soon as possible.

These point deductions have caused havoc with the Premier League table. Currently, as a result of their punishment, Forest have slipped below Luton Town and into 18th – inside the relegation zone. If the verdict is overturned, they would likely go back above them depending on the state of the table at the time the appeal is concluded.

Everton are also rumoured to be subject to another points deduction between now and the end of the season which could cause further confusion to all sides fighting for Premier League survival.
