I’llThe Detroit Lions have done well in free agency for 2024, making strategic outside acquisitions to fill requirements without going over budget. They have the cap capacity to make a move if it fits, and the secondary waves of free agency might present some opportunity to add components.

Players have left in one way or another for other teams as the Lions’ rebuild has advanced and the roster’s talent level has inevitably been bolstered, quite swiftly too.

The Lions have lost two players of note in free agency this year (Jonah Jackson and C.J. Gardner-Johnson), and Josh Reynolds is the next big name who could depart soon. However, those exits don’t appear realistic.

Given this, a closer examination of the theory that certain former Lions won’t live up to the new contracts they signed this summer is necessary. To create a list of teams that former Lions players have played for after leaving Detroit, we must look back further than this summer. That is more evidence of the astute decision-making that Holmes and associates are doing.

Despite the fact that some of these were not errors the Lions have avoided especially this summer, these past players are notable for their inability to live up to the new contracts they received in 2024 free agency.
