Dan Plumley has stated that Aston Villa’s Champions League qualification this season would be a “huge financial boost”.

It comes weeks after £119.6 million in losses were discovered, forcing the club to confirm they were fined for any potential PSR violations.

The football finance specialist admitted that it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they didn’t qualify for the top competition, but it would help them comply with Premier League and UEFA requirements.

“It wouldn’t be the end of the world if they don’t make the Champions League,” he told Villa News exclusively.

“Whichever way we spin it, we have to look at the two versions we’re dealing with right now: PSR calculations within the Premier League and Villa’s place within that; that may change, and we’re looking at UEFA’s standards, which are based on a squad cost ratio that we know.

“Within both sets of criteria, Villa is still playing catch-up a little bit based on the figures we’re looking at, so they don’t have much headroom to work with; in fact, they’ll probably need to squeeze that headroom to make the cut.
