Star engineer Adrian Newey is reportedly unhappy with the Christian Horner saga as the team principal continues to cling onto power despite ongoing speculation and rumblings of discontent from within the Red Bull camp.
Horner has been going about his team principal duties as though it is business as usual since being cleared by Red Bull’s internal investigation ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, but at both of the two races so far this season, the topic of his future has overshadowed the success of the team on track.
The father of the current world champion, Jos Verstappen, is already enraged by this specific truth and has repeatedly urged Horner to resign from his position in public statements.
Horner’s role has also raised the possibility that Max Verstappen will make a dramatic exit. The Dutchman expressed in Saudi Arabia that he considered the Austrian as a very close ally and that the Austrian’s possible exit would prompt his own.
A story from Auto Motor und Sport claims that Verstappen’s father and other prominent figures are not the only ones unhappy with the dynamics within the Red Bull squad. The team’s success over the last three seasons has been attributed in large part to Chief Technical Officer Newey, who is likewise displeased with the Horner situation.
Horner’s attempt to retain the most esteemed and sought-after engineer in the sport will be hampered by a decision to remove the 65-year-old from F1 operations for financial reasons. According to the same article, Horner wishes to steer Newey toward the RB17 Hypercar project of the firm. Newey’s ability to contribute to the F1 project would be effectively prohibited by the proposed action.
