It might have taken what seemed like forever, but on Friday, Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore’s defensive staff was officially announced by the Michigan Wolverines.
This included the hiring of Wink Martindale as defensive coordinator, plus Lamar Morgan as secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator, Brian Jean-Mary (linebackers coach/defensive run-game coordinator) and Greg Scruggs (defensive line coach).
“I am excited about the quality of the coaches that we have assembled on the defensive side of the football,” Moore said as part of the announcement by the Michigan Wolverines. “Men of great character who love the game of football and are tremendous teachers. They will put our defensive players in a great position to succeed on and off the field. I am excited to work with this outstanding group of assistant coaches as we pursue championships for the University of Michigan.”
In other news, Michigan football will have a new running backs coach for the 2024 season as it was confirmed that Mike Hart won’t return to the Michigan football team. Brad Hawkins was also hired as a graduate assistant.
Michigan Wolverines take down Notre Dame in hockey
Michigan hockey hosted Notre Dame on Friday for the first game in a best-of-three series which opened the Big Ten hockey tournament.
The first game of the quarterfinal matchup was going the way of the Irish, as they took a 4-2 lead late in the second period. However, Michigan scored a goal late in the second period to trim the lead to one, then T.J. Hughes was able to score the equalizer just 11 seconds into the third period.
Three minutes later, Rutger McGroarty scored his second goal of the game which proved to be the game-winner as the Michigan Wolverines took a 1-0 series lead with the 5-4 win.
