After several failed head coaches, Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis finally decided to promote from within and give former linebackers coach Antonio Pierce a chance to lead the team.
Pierce was named the franchise’s newest head coach and will be tasked with leading the Raiders back to the playoffs.
Pierce was elevated to interim head coach following the firing of Josh McDaniels and he turned the team around with a 5-4 record in his nine games at the helm.
A former player and Super Bowl champion, Pierce understands what it takes to win at the highest levels and connect with the locker room.
So far, all the reviews of Pierce have been positive and Las Vegas has to be feeling good about what he can accomplish with a full offseason to prepare.
The organization is making sure Pierce has the tools to succeed as they’ve hired a large staff to support him, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN
Although Pierce has demonstrated he has what it takes to coach a team, he’s still a first-timer and likely needs extra voices in the room to help him with the minutiae of being an NFL head coach.
There’s nothing wrong with the Raiders surrounding Pierce with additional personnel as he gets his bearings, and it shows that they have full confidence in his abilities.
