Leeds United target Karl Darlow will not leaving Newcastle United for ‘anywhere near £5m’.
That is according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, who also reports there is still a question mark as to whether Darlow will be moving to Bournemouth.
Reports came to light yesterday that Bournemouth had emerged as firm favourites in the race to sign the 32-year-old after holding talks with Darlow’s representatives on Wednesday.
Bournemouth are able to offer Darlow Premier League football and as a result of that, have the financial power to get close to the wages he is currently on at Newcastle.
Darlow is among Leeds’ top targets to strengthen between the sticks, with it now reportedly among their priorities after the signing of Ethan Ampadu.
Darlow to command less than reported £5m fee
Based on this update, it would appear Leeds still have a slight chance in the race with Crook indicating a deal still has someway to go before its completed.
Leeds’ other top reported goalkeeping target is Bayern Munich’s Alexander Nubel, but that is another deal where they also face top-flight competition.
Stuttgart are believed to be leading the race for Nubel after submitting a second loan offer to Bayern yesterday, with his preference to remain in the Bundesliga.
Leeds will need to ensure they have some contingency plans up their sleeve if they are unable to defy the odds and sign either one of Darlow or Nubel.
That said, Illan Meslier now back in pre-season training and is yet to receive any offers so far this summer.
