Leeds United want to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara after a £5m release clause in his contract emerged, according to Graham Smyth.
“Rangers’ Glen Kamara has also been looked at and with a release clause believed to be in the region of £5m would be another obtainable midfield target,” they wrote.
“The Finnish international missed Rangers’ mid-week meeting with Newcastle United through illness and is expected to depart Ibrox this summer.”
Midfield is clearly an area of the pitch that Leeds want to strengthen this summer, and there won’t be many better midfielders to come to the Championship for that price than Kamara.
He has fallen out of favour under Michael Beale at Rangers and is keen to leave Glasgow, and while a move to the second tier in England is unlikely to be his preferred destination he’s clearly open to the move after reportedly agreeing personal terms.
Kamara would provide high-level experience having played internationally for Finland and also played in the Champions League for Rangers, and that could be vital in the push for promotion.
£5m is a bargain in today’s market and considering we just spent double that on Ethan Ampadu who has a fraction of the experience, this would be a fantastic deal.
The clause does mean that there is no rush to start talks as the fee is set and could be why the clubare yet to make their move, but the new season is nearly upon us so the sooner the better. In other Leeds news, a report has shared if one Leeds star has a “burning desire” to leave Elland Road this summer.d
