Tennessee is getting a big piece of the puzzle back for the 2024 season — Bru McCoy is back. The veteran wide receiver made things official on Tuesday night, announcing his return to the Volunteers with a season of eligibility remaining

McCoy is still recovering from a brutal lower body injury suffered against South Carolina. The 6-3, 220 pound receiver is a former five-star athlete. He landed at USC after a wild recruitment, where he spent three seasons. McCoy transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2022 season, where he instantly became a starter.

During that 2022 season, McCoy caught 52 passes for 667 yards and four touchdowns. McCoy played in five games during the 2023 season before going down with the injury. He caught 17 passes for 217 yards and one score for the season.

McCoy now returns to a wide receiver group that appears to be completely stacked. He’ll play alongside of Squirrel White, who returns along with Chas Nimrod, Kaleb Webb and Nathan Lecock. Tennessee will also welcome in five-star receiver Mike Matthews, along with four-star receiver Braylon Staley. The Volunteers also picked up a transfer commitment from former Tulane receiver Chris Brazzell.

All of those names will surround Nico Iamaleava, as he transitions to the starting quarterback role. Iamaleava dazzled against Iowa, scoring three times on the ground to power Tennessee to a 35-0 victory. Now he returns two veteran receivers, while adding firepower in the form of Brazzell, Matthews and Staley.
