Emyr Huws, a former midfielder for Birmingham City, has decided to end his playing career. At barely thirty years old, the 11-cap Wales international has decided to hang up the boots.

Huws was let go in the summer after Colchester United, a League Two team, decided not to renew his contract. He has not been able to sign with a club since being unsigned, therefore he announced on Instagram that he was hanging up his boots.
“While writing this message, I never thought I’d be writing this shortly after my 30th birthday,” he said on his page. For those of you who know me, you will understand that since I was six years old, this football adventure has been my life.

“It’s time for me to move on to a new chapter in my life. This journey has taught me amazing things.” Even with all of the challenges I faced along the way, I was able to fulfill a childhood ambition of mine: becoming a professional football player.”

God alone knows how much assistance Huws has required on this trip, but he is fortunate to have received a ton of support along the road.With your support and my perseverance, I was able to find a path even in the worst of circumstances. I am grateful to everyone of you.

Huws attended St Andrew’s during Lee Clark’s tenure. On the last day of the 2013–14 season, he helped the team avoid relegation by scoring two goals in 17 appearances while on loan from Manchester City. He signed in January 2014. Later on, he played for Huddersfield Town, the aforementioned Colchester, and Wigan Athletic before moving on to Cardiff City. After 11 years and 145 appearances, he retires.
