Florida fans began their week with news of a third transfer commitment within 24 hours, as Oregon defensive back Trikweze Bridges announced his pledge to the Gators on Monday morning
Following former offensive tackle Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson of San Diego State and defensive lineman Joey Slackman of Pennsylvania, Bridges has committed via transfer to UF since Sunday. Bridges has one more season of college eligibility before joining the Gators.
When the 2023 winter transfer window opened, Florida gave priority to Bridges as one of its top portal prospects. On the weekend of December 8, the Gators welcomed Bridges, Slackman, and other prospects for formal visits.
During that visit, Bridges was approached by Gators head coach Billy Napier and defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong about joining Florida as a valuable veteran in the backend of the team next season. They also disclosed their plans to hire Will Harris, a former Los Angeles Chargers assistant, as Florida’s secondary coach, which was finalized the following Monday.
On December 10, Bridges said to All Gators, “I see what they’re trying to do with this defense, how they’re trying to change it around.” “They are young and have certain components here, but that kind of thing. And I just know that having someone in the room with them would help to change the situation by just leading and educating them.
“They just need a big brother, and that’s something that was like, it’s a good note to have and take a look at.”
