Brandon Staley is OUT as the head football coach of the Los Angeles Chargers and Jim Harbaugh watch is officially ON! The 59-year-old head coach of Michigan has been rumored for multiple NFL jobs over the last few years. This is not the exception.

Could Jim Harbaugh replace Brandon Staley?

In fact, it has been reported that Harbaugh loves Justin Herbert. An escape from the collegiate ranks may also be interesting now more than ever as the Wolverines continue to deal with the fallout from the massive sign-stealing scandal.

Perhaps most importantly, Harbaugh has refused to pledge his allegiance to Michigan in writing. He isn’t going anywhere before the College Football Playoff, obviously, but the university is trying to lock him in with a unique long-term deal.

Jim Harbaugh Claims He and Wife Will Raise Any Player or Staffer's Baby

Jim Harbaugh has been presented with a draft of a new contract. It would pay him about $11 million per year, not including performance-based incentives.

The pen has yet to hit the paper. Nothing is expected to get done soon. Especially after Staley’s ouster.

There are rumors that the proposed agreement has wording that would prohibit Harbaugh from ever departing to play in the NFL. Although unconfirmed, if accurate, that might serve as a disincentive.

Until all NFL roles are filled, probably nothing will get done.
The clause about termination for cause in Harbaugh’s present contract is another aspect in the Harbaugh to NFL rumors. There is a lot of interim phrasing to protect the university, which is not unusual at all.

If the NCAA finds Harbaugh guilty of a Level I or Level II violation, the Wolverines have the right to terminate him per the terms of his current contract. Additionally, Michigan gave itself a rather lenient way out of the contract in the event that Harbaugh fails to “fulfill

With all of the continuing issues, it is unlikely that Harbaugh will sign a new contract that might be abruptly canceled at any time. especially when he had the option to hold off and see the NFL coaching carousel first. The first domino to fall is the removal of Staley.

If Harbaugh is unable to secure a professional position, things may alter. Nothing will happen in either case in the lead-up to the College Football Playoffs. The conjecture is only getting started!
