The Boston Bruins’ disappointing loss to the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden on Thursday night was difficult enough. However, things were made worse by the injury Charlie McAvoy sustained during the game.

After colliding with Sabres winger JJ Peterka in the defensive zone, McAvoy was forced out of the game just over a minute into the third period. After sitting down on the bench for a moment and being examined by Boston’s training staff, McAvoy left via the tunnel and did not come back.

Following the 3-1 loss, head coach Jim Montgomery of the Boston Boston Bruins provided little information about McAvoy’s condition other than to say that it was an upper-body injury. Montgomery promised to provide more details on Friday.

According to footage given by the team, Montgomery told reporters, “I know Charlie was surprised by the hit.” “I was unable to determine if it was clean or just an elbow. Thus, I haven’t looked it over.

The rookie defenseman Mason Lohrei described McAvoy’s absence as a “huge loss,” indicating that his absence was felt greatly on the blue line. In addition to leading the team in ice time, McAvoy leads all defensemen with 17 points.
