Yes, it seems like the Las Vegas Raiders will have quarterback rumors for the second consecutive offseason.
Yes, Aidan O’Connell, the rookie quarterback and current starter, has a chance to silence the skeptics and persuade the Raiders that he ought to start all five games going forward.
However, the rumors have already started. The Las Vegas Review-Journal recently explored the idea that the Raiders would attempt to acquire third-year quarterback Justin Fields of the Chicago Bears through trade in the summer
Naturally, the decision-makers at the top will determine who is looked for as a quarterback. Mark Davis, the owner of Las Vegas, plans to hire a general manager and coach. After Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels were sacked on October 31, coach Antonio Pierce and Champ Kelly were promoted to a temporary duo. Alternatively, Davis could choose to pursue other options.
Fields might wind up being the next quarterback for the Raiders, which would probably mean Kelly gets to stay on. When Chicago selected Fields in the first round of the draft out of Ohio State, Kelly was the assistant director of player personnel for the Bears.
However, it’s debatable if Fields is worthwhile to pursue. Despite his advanced age, he will only be 25 on opening day in 2024.
Despite Fields’ skill set and occasional NFL success, ball security has been a problem. In 35 games, he has thrown 27 interceptions and made 35 fumbles. That isn’t the best situation. He has experience with wounds as well.
Given that Fields is still on his rookie contract and might be reasonably compensated in a trade. That might therefore be appealing.
How do you feel? Is it better for the Raiders to target a different position at the most important position on the field and deal for Fields?
