Following along with the action of Detroit Lions vs. New Orleans Saints, including score updates, highlights, and injury news.
In a key NFC matchup, the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints square off. Both clubs are in the midst of the NFC Playoff race, but neither is doing well. After falling to the Falcons last week, the Saints lost the NFC South lead. While the Lions remain comfortably leading in the NFC North, two lackluster games against divisional opponents have lowered fan confidence to a season low.
The Saints come in a little beat up on both sides of the ball. The following players will not be playing:
The good news is that they’re getting two guys who seemed like they could miss the game, WR Chris Olave and defensive lineman Cameron Jordan.
The Lions will be a much healthier squad on Sunday. Linebacker Alex Anzalone, who has a hand injury, is the sole starter who will miss the game. Most importantly, Detroit will have starting left guard Jonah Jackson back after missing the previous five games. For the third time this season, Detroit’s five starting offensive lineman will be available.
Will that be enough to put them back on top? Will the Saints snap their losing streak and take a big step toward retaking the NFC South lead?

The Saints won the coin toss and deferred, allowing Detroit to obtain the ball first. Following a false start to begin the drive, the Lions ran the ball twice to David Montgomery and converted a third-and-7. Detroit returned to Montgomery on a draw play, which shifted the chains. A few plays later, Jared Goff survived a hit and connected with Jameson Williams for 12 yards, with a roughing the passer penalty adding another 15. Jahmyr Gibbs then gained 36 yards on a terrific run to put the Lions on first-and-goal. David Montgomery slammed it in for the Lions to take an early 7-0 lead.
A Derek Carr pass deflected off a tight end’s hands on the Saints’ opening offensive possession, and rookie Brian Branch made an outstanding catch for the interception.
