Michael Beale says Rangers have received several enquiries for Leeds United target Glen Kamara this summer, though his absence from the friendly against Newcastle United was not due to transfer reasons.

Beale was speaking in his post-match press conference after his side’s 2-1 defeat to the Magpies in Allan McGregor’s testimonial, in which Kamara played no part of.

Kamara has been heavily linked with a move to Leeds in recent days with T40 even reporting that a £4 million deal was on the verge of being agreed by the two clubs.

The 27-year-old is expected to be allowed to leave Rangers this summer with just 12 months on his contract remaining, and after a below-par 2022/23 season.

Speculation has gone quiet since the rumours of an agreement earlier this week, though there is no doubt Kamara is someone Leeds are looking at this summer.

In his interview with the press following the game, Beale was quizzed on the future of Kamara, to which he admitted the speculation is ‘ongoing’, though illness is what ruled him out of Newcastle.Glen Kamara set for new Rangers deal as 'suitable bid' understanding leads to breakthrough - Glasgow Live

He said: “We’ll see some outs in the coming days as well. There has been quite a few enquires for Glen, but we gave Glen an extended break due to international stuff in the summer and unfortunately he’s been ill the last few days.

“He didn’t come to Germany with us, he’s due to return to training in the coming days and it’ll be ongoing, the speculation.”

You can never be sure a manager is telling the full truth in situations like this, and if reports of an agreement with Leeds are indeed correct, then it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was absent to ensure he did not get injured.

Despite his drop-off in the last 12 months, Kamara would be an excellent addition to Leeds’ midfield due to his ability in possession and hopefully it is something they can get done.
