What kind of team will Newcastle United play against Manchester United?
Pope, Trippier, Miley, Almiron, Gordon, Isak, Bruno, Joelinton, Lascelles, Schar, Livramento
Mark Gillespie, Matt Ritchie, and Emil Krafth were not included in the senior 23-man NUFC Champions League squad, therefore they were not able to be included against PSG. As a result, three more players are available than on Tuesday night.
Eddie Howe provided some good news regarding Joe Willock’s injury status on Friday. He disclosed that Willock, who saw a specialist and had scans, was spared a serious Achilles injury. The head coach estimated that Willock would only need a few “weeks” to return to action. Howe is predicting that Sean Longstaff’s ankle problem will cause him to miss a few more weeks of play rather than months. Additionally, Eddie Howe reported that Sven Botman’s knee is responding well to his increased intensity of individual training on the grass. The head coach expressed optimism that this improvement will continue and that no surgery will be required.
On the negative side, though, the NUFC president stated that he didn’t think any injured players would be back for this Man U match.
It would seem that Eddie Howe will choose his starting eleven from this group if we assume that there won’t be any unpleasant surprises in the form of fresh injuries:
Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, Loris Karius, Mark Gillespie, Miguel Almiron, Paul Dummett, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, Lewis Hall, Alexander Isak, Joelinton, Jamaal Lascelles, Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Kieran Trippier, Lewis Miley, Matt Ritchie and Emil Krafth.
Hopefully, the Tuesday to Saturday schedule of games will have helped the Newcastle players, who performed admirably against PSG, to refocus for tonight’s match.
Pope, Trippier, Miley, Almiron, Gordon, Isak, Bruno, Joelinton, Lascelles, Schar, Livramento
It does appear familiar because this is the exact same starting lineup that played against
PSG and Chelsea as well.
