The Detroit Lions signed veteran Bruce Irvin to their practice squad two weeks ago, hoping to give their unreliable pass rush some extra punch. Irvin has yet to play because the Lions intended to get the 36-year-old athlete in football shape before putting him on the field.
On Friday, Lions coach Dan Campbell intimated that Irvin could make his debut against the New Orleans Saints this week.
“Every week we feel like he’s getting his speed up, getting his football legs under him and I think there’s a chance,” Campbell went on to say. “I believe there is a chance. (General manager) Brad (Holmes) and I will make that final choice today, but we’ve been working him in a little bit, so he’ll be available if we need him.
