NEW YORK The NHL has chosen Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers, Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators, their goalie, the three stars of the week.
With nine assists and 12 points in four games, McDavid led the league and contributed to 63.2% of his team’s goals in the previous week.
In his last two games, he finished with nine points. On Friday, he contributed four assists in the Washington Capitals’ 5-0 victory. On Sunday, he scored a goal and assisted on four more in the Anaheim Ducks’ 8-2 rout.
Having played in 18 games so far this season, McDavid, the league’s reigning Hart Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, Art Ross Trophy, and Maurice (Rocket) Richard Trophy winner, has 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists).
In three games, Kucherov scored eight points (two goals, six assists), including an NHL-high five points (one goal, four assists) while on the power play.
He finished the week with six points (two goals, four assists) in Friday’s 8-2 rout of the Carolina Hurricanes, tying the team record for points in a single game for the Lightning.
With three wins in as many starts, Saros topped the NHL in goals against average and save percentage (.921) during that time.
