In preparation for their Week 11 matchup with the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions have elevated two members of their practice squad.

The Detroit Lions announced on Saturday the temporary promotion of two players from the practice squad—both the direct results of injuries. Offensive lineman Connor Galvin and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna have been called up and will be eligible to play against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Galvin’s promotion comes a few days after the Lions placed offensive lineman Halapoulivaati Vaitai on injured reserve. Coach Dan Campbell noted that Vaitai is unlikely to return this season, and with Jonah Jackson already declared out, the Lions are quite shorthanded on the offensive line. In fact, the Lions typically carry eight offensive linemen on their gameday roster—which allows them to have 48 active players instead of just 47. Galvin’s promotion gets them back up to eight healthy linemen, so expect Galvin to be active on Sunday.

Signed shortly after the draft, Galvin was a rookie undrafted out of Baylor. Galvin has been added to the active roster twice now. Galvin was listed on the gameday roster and ended up playing seven snaps when the Lions were shorthanded against the Packers in Week 4. Although he can cover several positions, his strongest position is tackle, where he started 50 games throughout his collegiate career.

Conversely, Bohanna was brought in during training camp; he signed on to the team’s practice squad not long after the Dallas Cowboys dismissed him during roster reductions. He is a 6-foot-4, 360-pound pure nose tackle with 27 games and 10 starts under his belt in the NFL. He can replace Isaiah Buggs, who has already been ruled out due to sickness.

Coach Dan Campbell discussed this week’s possible chance for both Brodric Martin, a rookie selected in the third round, and Bohanna.

“Those guys are aware that they must earn their reps, and we tell them as early as possible in the week that if they do so, they will be given the chance. And we’ll include you in the game if you demonstrate that you deserve it,” Campbell remarked. “Well, all of those guys—the majority of whom have been here the entire time—know that they will get an opportunity as members of the vet squad. Although there is some turnover, in the end, we believe it’s critical to have men who we can trust and who are familiar with our process.

A few roster changes have also been made by the Bears in advance of Sunday’s contest.
