The Dallas Cowboys are struggling at home this season and it’s looking frighteningly similar to their 1988-89 NFL season.
Heading into their Monday Night Football match against the Houston Texans tonight, the Dallas Cowboys are at 3-6. They’re having one of their worst seasons since 2015, and they’re playing shockingly bad at home.
After winning 16 home games in a row from 2022 to 2023, the Cowboys were apparently cursed in 2024, losing their Wild Card playoff game to the Packers last year and every regular season home game so far this season.
Still, that streak is no match for the amount of regular season home games the Cowboys lost from 1988-89.
Just one year before Jerry Jones took over as the owner of the Cowboys, they had the worst season since their debut in 1960, finishing with a 3-13 record. Playing at home did not help them that season either.
The Cowboys’ home back then was at Texas Stadium in Dallas, and they managed just one win there back in 1988. They won their Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons at home, but then went on to lose their next six in a row at home.
It didn’t get better from there though. In the 1989 season, Jerry Jones’ first season as owner and Jimmy Johnson’s first as coach, the Cowboys extended their home losing streak to 14 games, losing all eight regular season home games that year.
They and the 2008 St. Louis Rams now hold the record for the longest losing streak of regular season home games
