Following a classmate’s fatal beating, eight high school students in Las Vegas were taken into custody on suspicion of murder, according to a police announcement on Tuesday.
At a press conference on November 1, Las Vegas homicide Lieutenant Jasonn Johansso stated that Jonathan Lewis Jr. suffered from “non-survivable head trauma” following his beating by a group of individuals in an alley near Rancho High School.
His father informed the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the 17-year-old passed away on November 7 from his wounds. His death was declared a homicide by the Las Vegas coroner’s office.
According to Johansson, the eight students, who range in age from 13 to 17, were helped in their arrests by the nearby FBI office.
He said that two more students who were allegedly involved in the fight were still being sought after by the investigators. He said that they will also be charged with murder. Because of their ages, he did not identify the pupils.
An email requesting more information has been sent to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
According to Johansson, after Lewis’ friend’s wireless headphones and possibly a vape pen were taken, investigators discovered that the fight had been staged.
According to him, Lewis went with his friend to the alleyway where the brawl was scheduled to occur after classes were out, even though it is thought that Lewis was not supposed to be involved in the altercation.
