Micky van de Ven has been left out of manager Ronald Koeman’s roster for the Netherlands. The Dutch are fighting for a spot in Group B for Euro 2024, with Greece and Ireland still in contention to compete in Germany next month.
The 22-year-old made his debut for his country last month after a promising start to the season for Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou, but his season has been halted this week due to a catastrophic injury suffered against Chelsea. Van de Ven was substituted before halftime in Monday’s 4-1 loss to the Blues after injuring his hamstring.
He pulled up while sprinting towards his goal while rushing back to defend a counter-attack from Mauricio Pochettino’s side and had to be carried off the pitch by physios. It is a heavy blow for both club and country at this critical stage of the season, having been a vital component of Postecoglou’s preparations thus far this season.
“It’s too early, but looking at Micky, you’d assume it’s a pretty significant one, so you’d assume he’ll be out for a little while,” Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said after the game on Monday. However, there has been a glimmer of hope since then, as football.london knows he will not require surgery.
