Alan Hutton, a former Aston Villa full-back, has joined us as an exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll share his thoughts on the hot topics at Villa Park…
Alan Hutton is delighted for Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, who has been called up to Brazil’s squad for the forthcoming international break.
Luiz, 25, has been outstanding for the Villans this season, scoring six goals in 17 appearances across all competitions.
The former Manchester City midfielder was last called up for Brazil in October 2021, but he is now expected to be included in the squad for World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina later this month.
“He’s demonstrated that he can play at a high level every week, and he’s added goals to his game.”
“I thought he was just a defensive midfielder, but that’s not the case.” He surges forward, gets the ball into the area, and his set-plays, whether free kicks or corners, are terrific.
“The most significant change has been the addition of goals to his game.”
“Even though it’s Brazil, why aren’t you mentioned for your national team?” It’s fantastic for him.”
According to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing on October 23, Arsenal is one of “many clubs” interested in signing Luiz owing to how well he is performing for the Villans this season.
In other Aston Villa news, a £50 million transfer bid for Luiz has been made amid recent speculation.
