When it comes to Clement Lenglet, Barcelona continues to trip over themselves. They loaned the player to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2022 with the intention of never seeing him again.

That strategy appeared to be working, and the Frenchman was a regular member of the Spurs squad. Then, throughout the summer of 2023, he was connected with a return to Tottenham, but, according to Catalan publication Sport, Barcelona spoiled it all by asking for too much.

Given Cristian Romero’s red card and Micky van de Ven’s apparent injury, Tottenham could now employ the player. Instead, Lenglet is at Aston Villa, where he has played no domestic minutes under Unai Emery so far.
According to Sport, Barcelona has considered cancelling the loan in January, bringing him back, and loaning him to a Spanish team instead.

However, with Lenglet involved, nothing is simple, and according to the same report, Aston Villa ‘assured’ the player that they valued him and would not want to part ways.
According to Sport, he’s expected to start again in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday evening, this time against AZ Alkmaar, and Aston Villa appear to believe that’s a good enough reason to keep him.
