Doku and Spence spent the second half of last season together at French side Rennes, with Spence going to the Ligue 1 side on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season. Now, Spence is at Leeds.

Injury has hampered the defender’s start to life at Elland Road – but for Doku, he could not have made a better start to life at The Etihad. He’s had a hand in 10 goals during 14 games for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Five of those 10 involvements came on Saturday as Man City smashed Bournemouth. In a game that included Luis Sinisterra’s first goal for the Cherries, Doku excelled. One goal, and another four assists.

The Belgian, who cost the Premier League champions a fee of £55.5m, took to Instagram after the win. He underlined his delight at scoring and creating so many goals in what was a real signal of his intent.

Doku has been quite superb for City and it has come at the perfect time for Guardiola’s side, with Jack Grealish struggling to retain his form after injury. His pace, strength and final product has been superb.

It is quite remarkable to think that Doku and Spence were in the same side last season, but in the space of a summer – Spence finds himself in the Championship, and Doku is with the best team in England.

But, Spence can change that. He is nearing a return from injury and is likely to become first choice at Leeds in due course. He posted a cheeky comment on Doku’s Instagram post, joking he is doping.
