Leicester City chairman Khun Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha has thanked Kasper Schmeichel after the club legend paid tribute to Top’s late father.

Former City chairman Khun Vichai died when his helicopter crashed outside the King Power Stadium five years ago today (October 27). The crash also killed pilot Eric Swaffer, his co-pilot and partner Izabela Lechowicz, and passengers Kaveporn Punpare and Nusara Suknamai.

On Instagram, Schmeichel posted a selection of pictures featuring himself and Khun Vichai on the fifth anniversary of the crash. He added an emotional caption remembering the chairman and the memories they shared together.

“Five years ago, I can’t believe it’s been five years already,” Schmeichel wrote. “So much has happened yet; it seems like yesterday! We lost a great man and someone who meant a great deal to me.

“What I miss most is the laughs, jokes and conversations in the dressing room and the feeling of family he created at the club, what I wouldn’t give to have those days back.

“Thinking of you and your family today @ai_top (Khun Top), he would be very proud.”

Top replied in the comments below the post, saying: “Thanks Kasper he always look (sic) after us all”. Among those to also respond in the comments was club legend Andy King, who posted two applauding hands emojis. Former City players James Maddison and Jonny Evans each replied with a red heart.
