Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox lies injured on the field during the second half of the team’s NFL football game against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, in Green Bay, Wis. Philadelphia won 34-27. AP

On Thursday night, cornerback Avonte Maddox was rushed off the field on a stretcher after taking a helmet-to-helmet hit from his own teammate. Maddox was taken to the hospital that night and returned to Philadelphia with his teammates from Green Bay.

That event appears to have lost Maddox at least a couple games.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Maddox was diagnosed with a neck sprain and is considered “week to week” and will likely miss “a few games”.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson didn’t have any Maddox updates yet on Friday after the game, but did say that Maddox was “in great spirits.”

The Eagles’ next game is on Sunday against the Jets at Lincoln Financial Field, the last home game before a three-game road swing against the Vikings in Week 6, Cowboys in Week 7 and Bills in Week 8.

The Eagles are already without Ronald Darby for a few weeks and could be without Sidney Jones after he suffered a hamstring injury against the Packers.

That leaves the Eagles’ defense with only three healthy cornerbacks — Rasul Douglas, Craig James and Orlando Scandrick.

James has only played three snaps in his NFL career, while Scandrick was just signed over the weekend. Scandrick is a 10-year NFL veteran who did spend training camp with the Eagles and will likely step into a significant role right away.
