Newcastle’s midfielder Sandro Tonali is about to face a lengthy suspension from the sport, and the team has reportedly threatened AC Milan with a multi-million dollar lawsuit.

Tonali will miss the rest of the season due to a 10-month suspension for illegal football betting, according to a report from Mail Sport on Wednesday morning. Despite this, he will be available for tonight’s Champions League encounter against Borussia Dortmund.

This is less than four months after he paid £52 million to join the Premier League team from Milan.

According to Corriere dello Sport, they are furious with the Italian powerhouses for selling them a player who would now likely be sidelined for the majority of the season and are seriously considering suing Milan.

Tonali’s representative has asserted that the 23-year-old is a gambling addict, despite Tonali’s admission of betting on his own teams to win games.

Eight months of therapy and involvement in anti-gambling activities are part of Tonali’s suspension.

Newcastle is reportedly planning to suspend Tonali’s €8 million (£7 million) annual wage, according to Corriere dello Sport. However, the club has not confirmed this to Mail Sport.
