As football celebrities from all around the world give their support, the 35-year-old defender reveals he has already undergone the first of two surgeries.

Chris Basham, the captain of Sheffield United, has made his first public remarks since sustaining a “horrific” leg injury during a match against Fulham.

The 35-year-old defender expressed his “devastation” at Saturday’s injury in an Instagram post.

“To make things right,” he explained, he had undertaken the first of two surgeries.

He expressed his gratitude to Sheffield United for “taking care of me,” friends, family, and the football community for their supportive sentiments.

Along with Fulham, he also praised opposition defender Tim Ream for “putting football aside” and “being there.”

Harry Maguire, the centre back for Manchester United and England, was among the celebrities who left comments on the page. He said, “Thinking of you mate (heart emojis).”

Aaron Ramsdale, the custodian for Arsenal, continued, “With you, mate (heart emoji).”

 

Ream of Fulham, meanwhile, wrote: “Thinking of you, buddy! Get well and rest.”

When Sheffield United came off the pitch and into an ambulance, both sets of fans cheered him on and sang ‘One Chris Basham’ during the pause.
