JUST IN: Mings joins Buendia among Aston Villa’s long-term injured absentees until 2024.

BIRMINGHAM, England – Aston Villa suffered a second major early-season injury blow on Monday, with England defender Tyrone Mings set to miss a lengthy amount of time with what the club described as a “significant knee injury.”

Mings writhed in agony and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher after injuring his right knee when making an interception during Villa’s 5-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.”The defender has undergone scans,” Villa said in a statement, “and will unfortunately require surgery ahead of a lengthy rehabilitation process.

Emi Buendia, an attacking midfielder, is also out for several months after suffering a knee injury in training on Wednesday.

Mings and Buendia were vital players for Villa last season as the squad improved in the second half under manager Unai Emery.This season, Villa will compete in the Europa Conference League.
