Nottingham Forest are now in advanced talks to complete the signing of Ibrahim Sangare. It’s been claimed that the player’s agent is currently in Greece as the parties try to thrash out a deal.

According to Football Insider, the Reds have now firmed up a long-standing interest in the player. The club are busy trying to win the race to sign him, with the player’s agent now locked in talks with Forest.

Sangare’s price tag is thought to be in excess of £30 million. Dutch publication ED has already claimed that the first bid from Forest for the midfielder is nowhere near enough to tempt them into a sale.

Still, Forest have made Sangare one of their top targets for this summer. The Reds wanted Sangare 12 months ago, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool all keen on a deal during the 2022 transfer window.

Forest have made the first move for Sangare. Last season proved a successful one for the 25-year-old as he scored eight goals and registered three assists for PSV as they won the cup.

Sangare has been with the Dutch outfit since 2020 when he joined from Toulouse. In total, he’s made 133 appearances for the club but a top European league now appears to be calling.

Forest in advanced talks to sign Sangare

Roger Schmidt previously praised Sangare back in 2021. He called him ‘unstoppable’ and it’s fair to say that the player is certainly a very good midfield player.

Forest are looking to strengthen their ranks with a defensive midfielder. Sangare can do it all in the middle of the park and he looks tailor-made to perform the duties that the Reds are looking for.Julio Velazquez explains the virtues of Ibrahim Sangare - Football España

The Reds do have a number of midfielders. Their defensive enforcer in there, however, is Cheikhou Kouyate and he’s been linked with a move to the MLS this summer.

Even if the Senegalese player does stay, it’s unlikely that he will extend his contract. Kouyate will be 34 during the 2023/24 campaign and if he doesn’t go now, he definitely will in a year.

Sangare would be an excellent player for Forest. He’s only 25 and he could be tied down ahead of his very best years at the City Ground should the Reds get a deal over the line.
