Agent Andre Cury has made a surprising revelation that Tottenham Hotspur made a bid close to €100 million for Brazilian wonder kid Vitor Roque.
The news comes after Mundo Deportivo reported last week that Spurs, along with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, were attempting to hijack Barcelona’s deal for the talented youngster.
Roque had reportedly agreed to terms with Barcelona, but the club was experiencing delays in finalizing the paperwork.
The player’s agent, Andre Cury, confirmed these reports during an interview on the Charla Podcast.
Cury disclosed that both Manchester United and Tottenham made substantial bids, far exceeding Barcelona’s offer.
Cury said (as relayed by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano):
“I can confirm that English clubs tried to hijack Roque deal”
“Tottenham and Manchester United sent important bids, way better than Barça; close to €100m”.
“Vitor only wanted Barça, there was no chance to change his mind”.tottenham coach
However, despite the lucrative offers from the English clubs, Roque had his heart set on a move to Barcelona, and there was no chance of changing his mind.
Barcelona eventually sealed the deal and officially announced the signing of the 18-year-old superstar yesterday.
The transfer fee is reported to be £26 million, with additional add-ons potentially raising the total cost to £52 million.
Vitor Roque has emerged as one of the most promising attacking talents from Brazilian football in recent years. This season alone, he has contributed to an impressive tally of 21 goals and assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.
The revelation of Tottenham’s substantial bid for Roque raises speculation about the future of star striker Harry Kane.
With Chairman Daniel Levy reportedly willing to spend such a significant amount on a player, it suggests that Spurs may have been preparing for Kane’s departure, which has been the subject of intense transfer speculation recently.
