Masei Tavui, a Wests Tigers junior, has been charged with the murder of Dejan “Danny the Serb” Radulovic in Sydney’s inner west.
Tavui, 19, was detained and transferred to Liverpool Police Station on Tuesday afternoon after Radulovic’s death on July 29. He was charged with one count of murder.
Following a confrontation with two guys, Radulovic was allegedly stabbed and shot on Donnelly St in Balmain.
On Tuesday morning, NSW Police raided a residence in Austral, taking “clothing relevant to their investigation” before Tavui was carried away in handcuffs. When Tavui appeared at Liverpool Local Court on Tuesday afternoon, he was denied bail. Tavui’s case has been postponed until December 12, when he will appear at the Downing Centre. Another individual has been charged as an accessory to the murder and is still in custody.
Tavui has been a Wests Tigers youngster for the past four years, climbing through the Harold Matthews and SG Ball divisions and playing as a back-rower in the under-19s league last year.
He is not under contract with the club until 2024, while his younger brother plays for the club’s development sides. When reached, the Tigers declined to comment. Radulovic was freed from prison earlier this year after serving nine months for narcotics distribution.
The 29-year-old was discovered in late July following assault charges, with police claiming he was hurt during a struggle with two males who then escaped in a white Jeep.
Radulovic was treated at the site and then transferred to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he died shortly afterwards. Police claim that a gun was discovered in the burnt out Jeep when it was discovered at Five Dock.
