Sven Botman has issued an injury update following his absence from Newcastle United’s 8-0 triumph over Sheffield United.

The Dutchman has been out of the United squad due to a knee injury, missing four games, including the Champions League victory over PSG.


Eddie Howe was confident before the international break that the 23-year-old would be fit to face Crystal Palace next week, and it appears Botman is ready to go once more.

The defender said on his Instagram story, ‘Coming back stronger than ever,’ alongside a black and white photo of himself before of the AC Milan encounter.Joelinton, who has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury, is also expected to return to the squad next week.

Following Newcastle’s 2-2 draw with West Ham, Howe stated that the squad was strained due to injuries. Anthony Gordon was also absent because he was suspended.

“We were missing some big players today and that makes the recent games all the more positive for us because when you’re stretched, you need the depth of your squad,” Howe said.”I believe we’ve demonstrated that. The players who have come in have been fantastic

for us, but I believed we were missing Joelinton. Joe Willock has been much missed for a long time. These players, Sven [Botman] and Anthony [Gordon], can make a difference, especially in a tight game when we’re tired and 2-1 up.

“That’s something we need to look at and hopefully we can get those players back in the next two weeks.”

Joe Willock, who has been out since May, is scheduled to return to training this month and might be available against Crystal Palace as well.
