Coventry City were battered 6-2 by Yeovil Town on Easter Monday.

These were Andy Turner’s findings:

It’s fair to say few from either camp would have seen that coming – the meanest defence in the division shipping six goals to a Yeovil side who went into the game in 18th place, having won just one of their last six games in a run that included four defeats.

City, meanwhile, had been on the crest of a seven game unbeaten wave with supporters convinced they were picking up momentum just at the right time.

Defeat is one thing but the manner in which the Sky Blues collapsed in the space of the first devastating 15 minutes was hard to stomach.

The goals came from three players who made unlikely errors – Lee Burge the hero of Good Friday with an ‘out of this world’ save dropped a high ball for the first; captain fantastic Michael Doyle was mugged in midfield for the second and one of the players of the season, Jack Grimmer, nodded sloppily back to his keeper to allow a striker to nip in for the third.

The defeat was the first time City have had six goals put past them at the Ricoh Arena and came as the heaviest defeat of the season, and that includes the away trip to Premier League Brighton in the FA Cup.

Club statistician Jim Brown has confirmed that the result is the heaviest home defeat since 2008 when Tony Mowbray’s West Bromwich Albion beat City 5-0 in the FA Cup, and it’s only the second time in 99 years of league football that Coventry have conceded six.
