After a disappointing second half of the 2021/22 season with Rangers, the winger completed a temporary move to the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2022.

That would be a far bigger success for everyone involved. Diallo scored 14 goals and gave four assists in 42 appearances for the Black Cats in all competitions last season.

Sunderland reached the Championship play-offs in their first season back in the second division after four years in League One thanks to such contributions.

Diallo’s achievements for the Black Cats earned him the titles of Young Player of the Year and PFA Fans Championship Player of the Year.

Diallo’s return to Sunderland appears to be on the cards again in the near future, according to reports.Could Diallo sign a new contract with Sunderland?
The winger suffered a serious knee injury in pre-season after returning to Manchester United from his loan spell with Sunderland.

As a result, the 21-year-old is so far yet to make a single competitive appearance for Erik ten Hag’s side, during the current campaign.

But with Diallo now close to completing his recovery, he and his club must start to think about building up his match fitness again, something it seems Sunderland could help with.

According to iNews, the Black Cats would be open to taking Diallo on loan again in the January transfer window to provide him game time, should United choose to go down that road in order to build up the winger’s fitness.

Given his recent success with the club, that would undoubtedly be an exciting prospect for many Sunderland supporters. However, there is an argument that the return of Diallo to the Stadium of Light on loan in January would undoubtedly compel one current Black Cats player to consider his short-term future.
