LUTON MIDFIELDER SIGNS FOR A SEASON LONG LOAN

Luton midfielder Elliot Thorpe has signed for League 1 side Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.

Thorpe, 22, will join the Shrews for the 2023/24 campaign, and is one of the first signings made by new Shrewsbury Head Coach and former Luton player Matt Taylor.

Welsh youth international Thorpe joined Luton from Spurs in September 2021, and has made six senior appearances for the Luton first team.

He spent the first half of last season on loan in League One with Burton Albion, but ended up having his deal with the Brewers cut short in January.

Manager Rob Edwards told the official Luton site that he evaluated the move as a great opportunity for Thorpe to develop.

He said, “It’s a great opportunity for Elliot. Everyone wants to play football and it would have been difficult for him to do that this season, but he’s someone that we feel has got potential.

“He’s always been very professional. He’s been great around the place in training after he came back to us last season when we first came in, it’s just been difficult for him to play.Elliot Thorpe's first training session at Luton Town! 🏃‍♂️ - YouTube

“Matt Taylor has already got a relationship with him because they know each other from his time at Spurs as a coach, so that’s really good when a manager knows the player, knows why he wants the player and knows his strengths. It’s a good fit and we wish Elliot and Shrewsbury well for the season.”
