Pau Torres has officially been unveiled by Aston Villa with the defender reuniting with ex-Villarreal boss Unai Emery.
talkSPORT revealed last month how the Villans were closing in on a deal for the 26-year-old in a cut-price transfer – less than his £55million release clause.
The Spaniard has made the move to the Midlands in a deal rising to £35m.
The transfer is subject to international clearance and a successful visa application.
Villarreal were open to parting ways with the former Manchester United target with the player’s contract to expire in 2024.
Torres is Villa’s second signing of the window after Youri Tielemans arrived on a free transfer following the expiration of his deal at Leicester.
The 23-cap international will now battle for a place in the heart of Villa’s defence with Tyrone Mings, Diego Carlos and Ezri Konsa.
Emery has been keen to bolster his backline with his side to compete in the Europa Conference League next season.
The ex-Arsenal manager is a specialist in European competitions having won the Europa League on four occasions – the last with Torres at Villarreal two years ago.
