We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at West Brom...
West Brom midfielder John Swift may have been ruled out for as long as three months with a calf injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.
The injury expert shared his claim after the Baggies announced that the 28-year-old would be back in action after six weeks.
Had it been a Grade 4 rupture, as detailed below, it would’ve been a longer timeline and he perhaps would not have been back this calendar year.
Speaking exclusively with West Brom News about Reach’s injury, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said:
“The club have announced it’s six weeks so it’s not as bad as it could’ve been and he should be back in training by mid November.
The worst case scenario here would be a Grade 4 full rupture of the calf muscle.
“In that case, he would be looking at over three months out.
“These are also tricky for return to play because of the high reinjury risks.
Swift put the Baggies ahead on Friday against Birmingham City but failed to finish the game and saw his side lose 3-1 from the sidelines.
He could play 73 minutes but then limped off and fans certainly would’ve feared the worst given how important he is to the team.
However, it could’ve been far worse and the club will now look to ensure he works on his recovery so that it’s completely safe for him when he returns to football.
In other West Brom news, a football expert has been left stunned after behind-the-scenes news has emerged at Hawthorns over the past few months.
