The 28-year-old has struggled for regular football at the Etihad Stadium since joining from Leeds United, and has been overlooked by Pep Guardiola despite several injuries and suspensions in midfield.

He is now set to leave in January with a loan transfer mooted, and the Hammers have been named as the favourites to sign him alongside Everton once the transfer window re-opens.

“Kalvin Phillips is perfect for Brighton but West Ham and Everton are favourites for January move,” they wrote.

There was a lot of talk in the summer just gone that Manchester City wanted Phillips to leave the club and West Ham were the frontrunners to sign him as a replacement for Declan Rice.

Obviously it didn’t happen in the end and he decided to stay, with the Hammers and David Moyes signing James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez for their midfield roles instead.

The team is obviously performing incredibly well right now and Phillips is barely even getting on the pitch at City, so who is to say that he would come in and improve us further now?

He’d likely be on big wages and the chances of him taking a pay cut seem slim, while City being willing to let him go without someone taking on his full wage or at least the majority seems unlikely too.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops in the coming months, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Phillips has missed the boat on getting a move to the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano has dropped a fresh update on David Moyes’ Hammers future.
