Wolves were today playing a waiting game on Emmanuel Frimpong as his left eye is still too swollen for further assessment.
The on-loan Arsenal midfielder was stretchered off after 57 minutes of Saturday’s 3-2 defeat against Villa after an accidental kick in the face by Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov, as he launched a diving header.
Frimpong was rushed to Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital for assessment on the injury, where an initial examination revealed no head or spinal problems and he returned to Molineux after the game.
But the 20-year-old’s eye is so swollen it is closed and he will need further examination to discover the extent of the injury
He said: “I can’t remember too much about it, to be honest. I remember heading the ball and, from what I heard, I then got a kick in the face.
“We will just have to give it a couple of days and wait for it to settle down.”
Wolves don’t play again until the visit of Liverpool in eight days’ time and they will hope Frimpong will be fit to face the Reds, who he made his debut against on the opening day of the season, especially with Karl Henry banned for the next three games after his sending off at the weekend.
Frimpong said: “This is a great experience for me and I’m happy to be here playing some games.”
