Tyrone Mings, a defender for Aston Villa, suffered a “significant knee injury” during Saturday’s loss against Newcastle.
The club has announced Mings, an England international who was carried off the pitch during the first half of Villa’s 5-1 defeat to St James’ Park, will now need surgery before beginning a “lengthy rehabilitation process.”
Around the 23rd minute mark, Mings clumsily collapsed while attempting to get to the ball ahead of Newcastle forward Alexander Isak. Both sets of fans gave the 30-year-old a standing ovation as he departed the pitch with his right leg in a protective boot.
The midfielder Emiliano Buendia of Villa has also been sidelined indefinitely after experiencing ligament damage during training, making Mings the second player on the team to suffer a significant knee injury in the past week.
Mings expressed his resolve to bounce back from his most recent defeat even better on social media.

After Saturday’s loss to Newcastle, Villa manager Unai Emery commented on Mings’ injury, saying: “This week is really terrible for us. with Tyrone Mings, then with Emiliano Buendia
“We have to take some days in reflection and then prepare for the game against Everton.”
