Mark Robins has provided injury updates on a number of his players as Coventry City continue their pre-season blighted by an outbreak of Covid in the camp.

Several senior Sky Blues players, members of staff and Under-23s development players have either been ill or isolating after testing positive for coronavirus, resulting in a first team fixture being downgraded to a development match and two Under-23s friendly postponements.

To add to that disruption, skipper Liam Kelly is continuing to recover from a knee ligament injury suffered at Stoke at the back end of last season, while striker Matty Godden is working his way back from a chronic foot injury.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, Josh Pask limped off injured at the weekend with a nasty looking knee injury.

Asked about the influential midfielder, Robins told CoventryLive: “He’s doing all right.

“Kels had a setback with illness and spent the best part of three weeks recovering from that but he’s back training and working his socks off.”

As for the 29-year-old striker, whose progress was hampered by a frustrating and painful foot injury last term, Robins revealed: “Matty is the same as Liam, and on the grass running.

“Maybe in a week’s time he will be back with us. The games we have got are brilliant if we have

“At the moment we’re missing key players for how we want to play. But as long as we can get them in we’ll be all right because prior to them being ill there was some decent work.”

The centre-half limped off injured after 25 minutes against Cheltenham at the weekend with an injury to his left knee, which looked serious at the time due to the player immediately putting his hand up to indicate to the medics on the bench that he was struggling following an attempt to clear a ball into the box as Andy Williams scored for the home side.

Fortunately there was no ligament damage, with Robins revealing: “He just cut his knee.

“I think it must have been studs because he got two different lacerations on his knee.

“He’s going to be OK. They are saying a couple of days so fingers crossed he’ll be OK for Tuesday night.

“He’s had stitches and that will heal.”
