vacations abroad? Bad. international pauses during which Tottenham Hotspur leads the standings? Exceptionally good. Spurs didn’t make it easy for themselves when they travelled to Luton Town on Saturday, but they persevered and managed to eke out a 1-0 victory at Kenilworth Road despite Yves Bissouma receiving two yellow cards in the first half—one for a hard foul and the other for simulation. Spurs are now in first place on the standings, if only by the second tiebreaker (goals scored), following Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City at home. still applies! Watch the space.

Memes are the subject of today’s theme. Since it is a somewhat broad category, let’s limit it to traditional memes. That remains a sizable category, but

What precisely do I mean by “classic memes” then? There are more recent instances as well, but I mostly mean the early years, around between 2010 and 2015, when voluntarily using the internet only gave us brain worms and not a full-blown psychological condition. I’m referring to the era when memes consisted of shoddily cut-out images pasted on bizarre geometrically coloured backgrounds, but I’ll also include more recent instances. Obviously, this was before TikTok. Some iconic memes were incredible works of creativity that endure and continue to circulate today. Others were really bad even back then, and we didn’t understand why they were so well-liked.To the tune of vintage memes, here are your Tottenham Hotspur player rankings for their victory over Luton Town. Please list your favourites and least favourites.

Despite my reluctance to acknowledge 4chan as the source of anything, I must concede that it was there that the concept of Rickrolling, a bait-and-switch meme that misled people into clicking a link that led to the music video for Rick Astley’s iconic pop single from 1987, first surfaced. But it swiftly rose above that shithole to rank among the best and most cherished memes of all time. To be fair, it’s amusing and earns Rick Astley a few cents more in royalties for each person who falls for it. What might be superior? By the way, 1.4 BILLION people have watched the official video for “Never Gonna Give You Up” on YouTube.

A good visual meme is one that is simple to understand, appropriate for a variety of contexts, such as current events and trends, is simple to create and adapt, and provokes a response. All of those statements are true of Distracted Boyfriend. Though it’s a straightforward idea, it’s wide enough that the joke can be used in a variety of contexts and references. Since it was created in 2017, it barely fits my first description of a “classic meme,” but can anyone deny that this meme has already become a classic? This one will get its own wall when the Museum of Memes opens.

I’m not sure why this meme is so popular. It’s really monophonic, doesn’t scale, and, well, only applies to aliens. However, there’s something about it that makes you know this meme will be shared every time the topic of extraterrestrial life is discussed online. It could be the guy’s extremely wild hair, his closed eyes, or his clear conviction when you view the original footage. And it’s still funny in some way.

Whoof, this is a strange one, says Pape Sarr (Community — 3.5). grew into the game and covered every square inch of turf, but in the first half, their sloppy passing and mistakes put Spurs in some really awkward situations. barely receives 3 stars.

Had some issues with Ange’s substitutions and general tactics, especially in the second half when they were ahead by one goal. When a more sensible approach may have spared my nerves, some ridiculous balls-to-the-wall attacking resulted in several good Luton opportunities. A Tall Guy in the BoxTM would have been helpful against a crowded Luton defence, so I wanted to see Veliz early. After that, we succeeded! Yay!

I grew up watching Blazing Saddles and am as much a lover of the late, great Gene Wilder as the next GenX guy, but something about this meme never quite clicked with me. Yes, it fulfils many of the requirements for a fantastic meme, but it also tends to be condescending rather than merely humorous or clever. This meme is well-known by everyone, which I suppose shows how durable it is, but I don’t think it holds up.

Richy, mate. I’m trying, but it’s incredibly challenging when he misses shots from two feet in front of the net. Halftime hookup wasn’t really his fault, though. Not a good match up against Luton’s heavily fortified defence.
Although I did admire his crashing the box on a few occasions when his teammates failed to identify him, this player just doesn’t have it.
