Injury update: This afternoon, Nottingham’s key player was ruled out due to injury.

Notts County are facing an anxious wait as they await news over the severity of Callum Roberts’ injury  after the talented winger left the pitch on a stretcher in their defeat to Harrogate Town.

The highly-rated attacker was left crumpled in a heap following a tackle by Brendan Kiernan and immediately signalled for help before he was carried off by paramedics and Notts’ medical staff.

Notts manager Neal Ardley revealed the 23-year-old needed gas and air after the game at Meadow Lane, but more of a concern was that he had lost all feeling in his foot.

The club is waiting to see if he will require an X-ray or a scan and he will be required to wear a protective boot as Notts wait to see how the injury reacts.

But the early indications are that Roberts has not suffered a break.

“We won’t know the extent of it for a couple of days probably,”  said Ardley.

“He’s got stud marks all the way down the back of his Achilles.

“He was quite shaken because he lost all feeling in his foot and even now his foot is totally numb.

“It could be that it’s gone down the nerves. He will be put into a boot and hopefully the feeling will come back.

“They (medical staff) don’t think it’s a break. I saw him with the doctor and the phsyio after the game, and he was having a bit of gas and air.

“Fingers crossed it won’t be as bad as first feared.”

Ardley said he had “lots of complaints” over the tackle which came late on in the second half as Notts were trying to score an equaliser after Town had taken a first-half lead through Will Smith which proved to be the only goal of the game.
