The Hatters midfielder, 25, dislocated his left ankle and had to be rushed to hospital yesterday.

Berry, who the League Two side confirmed was taken to Ipswich hospital, is also being assessed for a potential fracture and ankle ligament damage.

But he appeared in good spirits when tweeting from his hospital bed.

Berry wrote: “Thank you everyone for the messages of support really appreciate it, means the world.

“These things happen the only thing to do now is get high on morphine.”

The post was followed by a laughing face emoji and, 14 hours after being posted, had close to 250 retweets and 1,600 likes.

Berry’s injury sparked a 12-minute delay in the game against Colchester, with both sets of players being sent back to their dressing rooms.

And the player also thanked rival fans for their support during his horrifying ordeal.

Colchester tweeted from their official account: “Once again, all at #ColU wish Luke a speedy and safe return to fitness – we look forward to seeing you back in action.”
