Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca has made a pointed remark over other ‘important’ clubs in the Championship that are failing to hit the heights that the table-topping Foxes currently are. A 3-0 win over Preston North End on Wednesday night saw City return to the top of the Championship table with nine wins from their first ten Championship games.

The Foxes were one of three big-name clubs to be relegated last summer, alongside Leeds United and Southampton and it’s the East Midlanders who are faring best in the second tier this season.

“I’m happy,” Maresca said following his side’s latest win. “I just said to the players that what they have done until today is not normal. It’s not just because your club is Leicester that you achieve something like this. There are more clubs in the Championship this year, important like us, but they struggle. So it’s something important.

“The first thing I said to the players after the game was that you are doing something unbelievable. Don’t trust people, your friends, people from outside, who say that only because you are Leicester you can achieve that.

“There are more clubs that are important in the same way as Leicester and have important players. And they struggle. So what they have done is fantastic.

“Unfortunately it’s not finished because it’s only October,” he added. “For sure it’s something we need to continue. Every game you need to show. Yes, you are Leicester and are a big club in the Championship but you need to show and they are showing every game. This is the best thing for the fans. You can see they are giving everything.”

“We always say the same: early days. We have only played 10 games, we have won nine of 10 and we are very happy with that. But in less than 72 hours, we have another game, and we have to be focused on that.”

Rodon heeded training ground warning by Farke before Leeds United return

Training was not up to scratch from Joe Rodon and the Leeds United defender needed a jolt from Daniel Farke before he deserved his place back in the starting line-up. The Wales international returned to the fold on Wednesday night and immediately played a key role in the team’s fifth clean sheet of the campaign.

However, while match performance from Rodon has been impressive, the manager felt he was not seeing enough from the 25-year-old at Thorp Arch. Farke has constantly talked about standards, earning a place in the starting line-up and then only retaining it with strong showings in games.

Rodon may have felt like a shoo-in for team selection to many of us, but the German felt he needed to see a little more behind closed doors. Thankfully, Farke says, the improvement has come on the training ground.

Leeds United ‘money’ observation made as QPR boss predicts Premier League push

Queens Park Rangers manager Gareth Ainsworth has highlighted Leeds United’s transfer spending as a reason to stay positive despite tasting defeat at Elland Road. The Whites forked out around £30million on new arrivals ahead of the new campaign.
