Gary O’Neil has admitted he is such a big fan of Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.
Wanderers picked up a huge win over Manchester City last weekend, beating the champions 2-1 at Molineux.
It was a top performance from everyone, including Gomes who started once again in midfield.
Gomes’ stature is really starting to grow now at Wolves, after he joined the club in a £15 million deal from Flamengo in January.
He’s started every Premier League game so far, after taking the number 8 shirt vacated by Ruben Neves.
It’s clear he’s a very important part of O’Neil’s plans – and the manager has sang the Brazilian’s praises…
O’Neil was speaking about the level of leadership when he mentioned Gomes.
The head coach believes that the dressing room is in a really good place at the moment.
That’s despite the loss of some big names in the summer.
On Gomes, he says (Express & Star): “This is a very different group. Joao Gomes is a fantastic talent, I love him to bits, but he’s getting used to it.”
Molineux number two goalkeeper Dan Bentley recently admitted that the leadership group were helping Gomes to improve his English.
He said they would encourage him to mix more with the English players to improve his communication skills.
Gomes has really endeared himself to the Molineux faithful already with his performances for Wolves.
He was already really popular because of the stance he took to make sure his Wolves move actually happened.
But fans have loved what he’s brought to the team.
It’s great to think that this is the level he has shown when he’s only been here for five minutes.
Once he is actually properly settled and used to the club, he could reach some seriously exciting levels.
